What changes the price.

Two quotes for a website can describe very different jobs. These are the things that move the number.

  • How many pages

Each page needs its own writing and layout. One page suits a focused business; several services that people search for separately need several pages.

  • Who writes the words

Writing is the slowest part of most websites. Some prices include it and some do not, so ask. If you write it yourself, it usually takes longer than you expect.

  • Photos

Your own photos cost nothing extra. A photographer costs more. Stock photos are cheap but make you look like everyone else.

  • Features

A contact form and a map are standard. Linking to a booking or ordering tool you already use is simple. An online store with checkout, member logins or a custom booking system add real cost.

  • Who keeps it up to date

A site someone else maintains costs a monthly fee. A site you edit yourself costs your time.

The yearly costs after launch.

Whatever you pay to get the site made, these come after it.

How to avoid paying too much.

  • Get the price in writing, with what it includes: pages, writing, photos, hosting, and whether HST is extra.
  • Ask to see the finished work before you pay in full.
  • Make sure your domain is registered in your name, not the designer's.
  • Ask who can change the site after launch, and what that costs.
  • Be wary of anyone who promises first place on Google. No one can honestly guarantee it.

What PageCove charges.

  • A one-page website is $500 CAD, one time. No deposit. You review it finished, then pay once you approve it, before it goes live.
  • A website of up to 8 pages is $2,500 CAD. You see a finished one-page demo first, then a 50% deposit starts the full build and the balance is due at launch. Bigger sites are quoted up front.
  • Care is $79 CAD a month, or $790 a year, for hosting, security updates and everyday edits. Optional.
  • No HST is added today. PageCove is a small supplier and is not registered for HST. If that changes, HST will be shown on your invoice.

Is it cheaper to build a website myself?

In cash, yes: builder plans run about $21 to $46 a month. In time, usually not. The writing, the photos and the setup are most of the work, and they are still yours to do.

What are the ongoing costs of a website?

A domain name, hosting, email if you want it on your own domain, and edits or care. A .ca domain was $11.99 for the first year at one Canadian registrar in October 2026, and care plans from Ottawa studios run from about $30 to $400 a month.

Why do website quotes vary so much?

Page count, who writes the words, photos, features, and whether care is included. Two quotes for a website can describe very different jobs, so compare what each one includes.

Do website prices include HST?

Often the price page does not say. Most of the Ottawa price pages we checked in October 2026 did not state it, so ask. PageCove is not registered for HST, so no HST is added to our prices today.

How long does it take to build a website?

It depends on the size and how quickly the content comes in. With PageCove, a one-page website is usually ready to review within 3 business days of getting your details and content; a site of up to 8 pages takes longer and is scheduled up front.
